About 6 months ago, we formed a group of indivisible groups from around our state for exactly this reason. There are some groups just want to return to pre-Trump. Our group of group leaders realized that if that happens we will be right back here again with a younger, smarter authoritarian, and that was not something we are willing to risk. We are actively working to support more progressive candidates. Without the right people in office, we will not succeed.
Our government systems are like a large hunk of iron. All the political energy is heating it up white hot. Before it cools we need to be ready to shape it into what we need.
The best way to do this is to form a coalition of blue states now. The coalition should be hiring people from the DOJ and preparing to hold the regime accountable the moment we are back in control.
We should also be demonstrating what progressive democratic governance really looks like. The blue state coalition should be enacting universal health care within the blue states as well as child care and other things. Let's not just talk about what we would do, let's start doing it now. The Constitution prevents states from forming coalitions without congressional approval. We need to know what we plan to do and be ready to get approval as soon as we have control of congress.
Talk is good, action speaks much louder.
More altruistic governance systems outperform systems designed for the benefit of the selfish. We need to show it working.
This seems to me like a brilliant strategy. There's so much emphasis on reaching across to the other side but I think our focus should be on working together to do what you're talking about. Blue state coalition would be big and powerful. Love the idea of blue states hiring the dumped DOJ lawyers to prepare for post-winning in Nov.
Big step against the electoral college would be proportional electoral college votes in each state.
I also liked the idea from a few years ago of forming a parallel "government" which would offer alternative reactions to the regimes reaction. It couldn't government but it could hold a daily press conference as a counter to the dt fire hose.
Agreed, thank you!
